They giveth and they taketh

I went down to the cities for training today only to be informed that I do not have adequate computer skills and need not return to training. I was surprised about the call, but kinda ok with it also as it sounds like something I probably wouldn't like anyway. It would have looked good on my resume but that's ok. We were told it is a two month position with no chance of turning into anything permanent. The drive down went very well. Flew right down. The drive back sucked. Probably about 2 1/2 or 3 hours. Ish. And hot! My air only works for a short time and the temp guage goes up so I didn't chance it driving all that way. I could just see me stranded on the side of the road with a hot car. I am trying to baby it a little cause I just turned it over to 222,222 miles last week. I was a little worried driving it down there but it ran good. It does run pretty good, but I don't usually go very far. I wasn't sure what was gonna happen on the long drive but it made it down and back. Anyway, I will be glad to call Tammy (the scheduler) tomoro morning and let her know I am staying. She will be glad, as will the residents. I seriously don't think I could have lived up to the standards and demands to this scanning job. So I am really ok with the fact that it didn't work out for me. Better this way than to start the job and totally suck at it. It wasn't meant to be I guess. The whole process was kinda screwey from the get go anyway. The temp agency was kinda trying to talk me out of it because it was a paycut. I thought that was kinda wierd but I wanted to try it anyway. Oh well. Back to the nursing home I go. I reached my next level there so I will be bumped another .50 an hour. This temp job would have been about 11.50, which is over 2.00 less than the nursing home. That's another reason I'm ok with it not working out. I thought it was kind of silly for me to take a paycut when I just got my pay straightened out but I figured it would only be a couple months and it would be good experience. I'm babbling so I will sign off. I just wanted to update everyone on the job status. Yap at ya all later.

College

Ello Weigels!
It has gotten a bit slow around the realm of Weigel blogging, but I suppose that happens. It's nice to see some signs of life around here. :)
Not a whole lot is going on in my world, mostly just planning for college. I'm going to MSUM (Minnesota State University Moorhead), so I went there on 18th to register for my classes. I'm taking Principles of Acting, Intro To Mathematics, Speech Communications, Understanding Movies, and Intro to Cultural Anthropology. I got out of the basic composition class because I took AP English in high school, which is pretty nice. I'm pretty excited for Cultural Anthropology, and the movies class apparently involves watching movies and discussing them. I think both of those classes are going to be pretty fun. Not sure what to expect in Principles of Acting, but I'm not worried about it. After spending so much time working in theatre, the base level acting class shouldn't be challenging for me. I'm going to major in Theatre, with an emphasis in Theatrical Technology and Design. I'm trying to get into a class called technical theatre methods, but it's full. I sent an email to the professor to see if I can get an override from him to let me take it anyway, but I haven't heard back yet.
Classes start on August 24th, with orientation the Friday before. I'm going to be living off-campus, with Brea. It's a really awesome deal, because it saves me money and she lives less than two blocks from the school. I'm not entirely sure when I'm going to be moving to Moorhead yet. I'll know more as it gets closer.
Congratulations on the job, Tammy. That sounds pretty cool. I hope it turns into something permanent, so that you didn't waste your time getting hired and everything.
Working for the park service sounds pretty cool, Shayla. Counting mountain goats sounds like an interesting way to spend your time. I hope you like it.
So yeah. Not too much is new aside from college plans.
Anyone else out there in the blog realm? Come say hi!

I got the job!!

Hello everyone. I figured I would let ya all know that I got the job. I work at the nursing home mon, tues, and wed, go to training on thurs and fri, work sat and sun, and start the new job on mon. The training is in the cities somewhere. I'm guessing it's at Embassy Suites in Bloomington cause that's where they reserved a room for me so I don't have to drive back and forth. Nice of them huh? I'm excited, I hope it turns into something permanent. As of now it just goes through Sept but we'll see. It's about $1 pay cut but if it turns into permanent work, I would imagine it would be more than I'm making now. Hopefully, I will like it.

Shayla, Logan's party went pretty good, not many people but that was ok. It was nice to be able to visit with everyone. I will tell Jessi you are waiting for her. We are planning on going to the Domincan Republic next March so I don't know what her finances will allow but I will tell her to think about it any way.

Where is everyone? This hasn't been very busy lately.

Not much else is new, I'll keep ya all posted as to how the job is going. Yap at ya later.

Rocky Mountain High

Hey everyone~

I hope Logan's grad party went off well. Glad it was a nice day for you. I hope Logan raked in a little cash, since we all know that's what it's really about. :) I can't believe he's going into training soon. Sounds nuts! How's the rest of the bunch doing. Next time you all see Jessie, tell her to get her butt out here! But say it with love, of course.

I'm having another great summer out here. I've been hiking like a mad woman. I'll hit 200 miles tomorrow. And I'm really glad to see that my body can totally handle it. I've never been much of an athlete, so I'm impressed that I can hike everyday and not get too worn out. I'm starting to think of all kinds of crazy hiking/mountain climbing adventures for my future. I'm not sure which of them I'll actually be able to do, but I'm gonna try a couple I hope. I was hoping to climb mount Rainier this year out in Washington, and then perhaps Mount Whitney in California, the tallest in the 48. And if those go well I'd like to plan something even bigger, like Denali (McKinley) or Kilimanjaro in Africa. Those things cost a little bit of money though. I'm also thinking a lot about hiking some or all of the Appalachian trail. Jesse and I are both talking about that actually. I feel like that would be a hell of an acheivement. Plus a great way to see that part of the country. I hear it's pretty amazing on the trail, the Smokies, the Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah National Park, the White Mountains, the Green Mountains, and a whole bunch more.

I'm volunteering for the park service part time. Which involves me hiking to a designated site with a spot scope and some binoculars and trying to count all the mountain goats or Pikas I see in a 360 degree scan around the area. I like it. It's a good way for me to help out since I'm always on the mountain anyway. And it's always good to score points with the rangers.

Jesse and I are talking a lot about moving to Seattle again this fall, it seems the most likely. We're also considering Salt Lake City, but that depends on a few things which we won't know about till August or so. I'd be happy either way, but Seattle seems like the easist since I could already get work there. That's kind of a big deal these days.

Summer has begun to do it's thing and fly by more quickly then I'm able to keep track of. I mean it's great an all, but it sure is fleeting. I know it just started though, so I probably shouldn't worry about that yet.

Does anyone know much about finding health insurance when you don't have a job that offers it? To me it seems like the bottom line is, it's a crock of shit! Is there anyway to pay a reasonable amount of money and actually get coverage. I wish Obama and I could have a little conversation about this and see what he's planning and how long it'll take to come to effect. But I figure he's kind of a busy guy. I am too.

Well I suppose that's enough talkin' at ya all for now. Have you found out more about that job yet Tammy? Are you doing it for sure? Sounds like a good opportunity.

TTFN,
Shayla

It's almost party time!!!

Hi Tammy. Yes to both; coolers and vegies. (And my eggs.) I'll pick up the ice on my way out of town in the morning. I'll also make up stuff after I get there. Esp. eggs. Everything's already done, so it'll be easy to whip up vegie trays and stuff the eggs. We also have plastic-ware, napkins and I think plates. Do you want the single roll of plastic balloon table cloth we used for Mom's party? Do you have a basket for cards? (Do you want one? :) ) My goal is to leave here at about 10:30ish, so holler before then if there's anything else I can do or pick up. I'll be up for awhile yet tonight and probably be up by 8 or so. If you need to call here do so on my phone, Mom's is temporarily out of order. Hopefully I can fix it. Talk to ya soon.

There is life out there

Lu, you said you were gonna do a vegie tray. Is that still the plan? Let me know. I can do it if you don't want to. I got a few recipes for salads from some of the residents. I think I have everything covered other than the vegies so let me know. I plan on being there about 11 or so to get set up and decorate a little. I could use a couple coolers for pop and beer. I have the food figured out but could use a couple beverage coolers. Glen has ours in storage and hasn't seen them for a while. I have one but would be nice if we had a couple more. We might not need them but it would be good to have just in case. Let me know that too. I will be home all day friday getting the food ready so call me. The scanning job sounds pretty good. I did a drug screen today so they must plan on using me. I should go to bed so I can get up and get busy tomoro. I haven't heard from anyone so I have no idea who's gonna be there. I'm hoping quite a few or I'll have lots of leftovers. I told Glen to make potato salad for about 30. I hope I'm not over quessing but I'd rather have to much than not enough. Yap at ya later.

IS IT SUMMER YET?

HAPPY JUNE EVERYONE.
HEY TAMMY, I HAVE BEEN DOING THE SAME THING. IN FACT THIS MORNING WHEN I CHECKED ON THINGS I KNEW I'D COME BACK ON AND WRITE SOMETHING TODAY.
I DON'T HAVE MUCH FOR NEWS. THE JOB SEARCH CONTINUES BUT SO FAR TO NO AVAIL. THEY HAVE STARTED THE CALL BACK AT WILKIE SANDERSON BUT THAT COULD STILL BE MONTHS IF IT EVEN HAPPENS FOR ME. 3 OF US ARE GONE FROM MY DEPT. 2 PART TIMERS AND ME. ONE OF THOSE HAS A FULL TIME POS. THRU A TEMP SERVICE AND I'M GUESSING SHE'LL PROBABLLY KEEP IT. I'M LOOKING MORE FOR TEMP STUFF OR A PERMANANT JOB IN A TOTALLY DIF AREA. LIKE RESTAURANT OR KITCHEN HELP IN A HOSPITAL, NURSING HOME TYPE SETTING. I HAD A COUPLE HOPEFULS BUT IT DIDN'T HAPPEN.
MEANWHILE, NOW THAT IT'S WARMING UP A LITTLE I'VE BEEN ENJOYING THAT TOO. I GET SOPHIA ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. THAT'LL BE FUN.
SPEAKING OF SATURDAY, TAMMY , IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO HELP? WHAT TIME ARE YOU DECORATING OR SETTING UP? JUST LET ME KNOW. SEE Y'ALL THEN, YAPPERS. TOODLES

ANY ONE THERE?

I have checked this occassionly but it has been pretty quiet since Mother's Day. Are we all busy or just not staying in touch? Here's the latest. I have applied for a job which looks pretty good. It's Medical Records Scanner for Blue Cross/Blue Shield. It is a temporary position which starts June 29th and runs through September. I talked to the DON and scheduler today to get their input and both say go for it. So, I will take a leave of absence from the Nursing Home while I do this other job, (picking up a shift here and there on weekends to keep me in good standing). It's good timing actually cause the kids are back from college looking to pick up some hours, and they go back to school in September. So, if this scanning job doesn't go anywhere or lead me to something else, I can return to the Nursing Home. So, that is the plan for now. I haven't got the absolute yes yet from the temp job, but it sounds pretty good so far. The sucky part is I will take a pay cut, but as I said, I can pick up a shift here and there to even the finances out. They are providing 2 days of paid training, so I can decide if this is something I want to go for or not. I have til the 29th to back out and stay where I'm at so we'll see how it goes. I sent my ap in today and have to pass a background check and drug screen before I go any further but they like my background according to my resume. Enough of that. Is everyone planning on coming to Logan's grad party this Saturday? I hope so. It's spose to be a nice day. Hopefully, I'll see ya all there. Yap at ya all later.
